David Smith

David J. Smith, CCIE Lifetime Emeritus No. 1986 (Routing and Switching), joined Cisco in 1995 and is a Distinguished Architect in the Americas Service Providers (SP) organization. Since 1999 David has focused on large-scale SP network architectures including IP routing, MPLS technologies, QoS, infrastructure security and, most recently, SDN technologies such as YANG model driven manageability and Segment Routing. David is co-author of a Cisco Press book entitled "Router Security Strategies: Securing IP Network Traffic Planes" as well as several IETF RFCs and journal papers. Between 1995 and 1999, David supported Cisco enterprise customers designing campus and global WANs. Prior to joining Cisco, David worked at Bellcore developing systems software and ATM switches. David holds an MS in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University, and a BS in Computer Engineering from Lehigh University.
